PROFIT FROM A DOWNING ENGLAND GOAL

This is my first article for ComeOnBoro.com and with no Premier league programme this weekend, I am happy to turn my attention to the World Cup qualifiers and the great opportunities that they throw up in the fun bet markets, with some prices as high as 800/1 for us to devour.

Fun bets can be great. They enable you to follow your team and in the unlikely event that an unexpected incident occurs, you can be quid's in for very little outlay.

The problem is that fun bets usually lose, as those who backed Middlesbrough to win the Premier League found out. Most people do fun bets in the hope that it comes together for their team in an unlikely fashion and there's nothing wrong with that. I along with everyone else, occasionally indulge in the fun bet markets. I mean, who really thinks England will win the World Cup? That cannot be termed as anything other than a fun bet.

So as a frustrated England fan blinded by nationalistic fervour and emotion having lost money backing them to win, I have decided to avoid supporting them in the traditional sense this time and look at some of the fun bets out there this weekend. And there are some nice ones as well.

We could start with a Stewart Downing hat-trick at 120/1 with BetDirect.com but that's probably just wishful thinking. A better option would be at 6/1, Downing to score anytime with Ladbrokes.com who also offer the same player at 16/1 to score the last goal.

Either is more likely than a hat-trick, or we could go for the correct score market, where those that believe England will thrash the Northern Irish lads can get 80/1 for a 7-1 England win with Bet365.com. Well you never know - the Irish may well score a goal.

But that man Downing may have an off day and England may struggle to overcome the plucky Irish, so what about a Northern Ireland win? They can be backed at 43/1 on BetFair.com. Alternatively and if you believe in miracles, there is available at 800/1 a Northern Ireland 3-0 win at the same exchange, though even the most optimistic Northern Ireland fan would find that somewhat unlikely and may plump for a 0-0 draw at 17/1 on BetFair.com instead.

There are many more outlandish bets available but even when its for fun, I like to have a chance. And in the spirit of adventurism for those that are blind fanatical England and Middlesbrough fans the, suggested bet for the England v Northern Ireland World Cup qualifier this weekend is;

Stuart Downing to confirm his arrival on the international scene with a goal anytime at 6/1 with Ladbrokes.com. In the event that he does not play, stakes are refunded.

Good Luck all
