CRYSTAL PALACE v BORO- ASIAN HANDICAP

The selection last weekend was a non runner. or should I say non starter. for some reason Sven Goran Erickson did not have the confidence in Stewart Downing that the rest of us did but at least this means that Middlesbrough will have him fresh and raring to go against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Reading through the forums, papers etc after Middlesbrough's embarrassing loss to Southampton, a team bereft of away wins until they visited the Riverside, the fans became a little angry. A loss against Crystal Palace will no doubt send them absolutely ballistic and put the manager's position under serious threat. This is a match Middlesbrough should win but as we all know, a team deep in a relegation fight (Palace) have a habit of getting some good results and this match will present Middlesbrough with a difficult challenge.

Middlesbrough have only won four times from fifteen premiership away games, an appalling record considering the quality that Middlesbrough possess. Certainly it is not good enough to enable them to qualify for the Champions League and with Crystal Palace only winning five times at home all season, this match would under normal circumstances be best avoided. However I believe that there is much more chance of either a Middlesbrough win or even a draw than there is of a Crystal Palace win and that brings us to the Asian handicap type of bet.

An Asian handicap bet eliminates the draw depending on the handicap given and in the event that the handicap provides the possibility of a draw then stakes are refunded. The handicap set for the Middlesbrough match against Palace is 0 and so for the bet to lose then Palace must win. A draw will see stakes refunded and a Middlesbrough win will see money in your pockets.

It will take a lot for Palace to defeat Middlesbrough outright. Middlesbrough were very poor against Southampton but you have to believe that the manager and his staff have been able to re-motivate the players and with the UEFA cup still a distinct possibility, they have as much to fight for as Palace. Middlesbrough have the better players who possess more class and experience than Palace and that should be enough to confirm their superiority.

The risk of the draw is very much there, but in that event stakes are refunded.
