MIDDLESBROUGH CUP SPECIALS FROM VC BET 8-12-05
It turned out to be a good week for Boro last week with two very good results coming within a few days.
First of all, Boro received a home tie with Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup quarter-finals and were then paired with either Histon or Nuneaton Borough in the third round of the FA Cup.
Add to that the fact that we have already qualified for the UEFA Cup knockout stage with a game to spare and you have all the makings of a truly explosive and memorable season.
The general mood amongst the Boro fans at the moment seems to be optimism that we can do extremely well in all three cup competitions this season but I personally do not want to get carried away just yet. That will happen after one of the cup final champagne celebrations. I'm just not sure which one yet...
Can Boro do it? Can we pull of a magical cup treble in World Cup year? I would have to say no because we just don't have the squad depth to pull that one off. But two out of three ain't bad, so they say and there is serious talk in the places that I frequent of a cup double.
I couldn't visualise it when the idea was first put to me and although it's a lot more realistic than a cup treble, I still had to dismiss it as fanciful.
"Boro winning two cups in one season? It'll never happen." And then it dawned on me...
Eight years ago, we were excrutiatingly close to pulling it off. If Emile Heskey's scrambled equaliser in the League Cup final had stayed out and if Gianluca Festa's first half equaliser had been correctly ruled onside, Boro would have taken two trophies home that season...
Nowadays, Boro are a much different outfit with better players, better facilities, more experience and that all elusive first trophy in the bag. And the team and the fans want more and believe that it can be done this season.
So I rang my friend Victor Chandler who I met at the UEFA Cup draw and asked him to do some special odds for me. Some of the lads I recently spoke to said that they would like to have a little flutter on Boro winning two trophies this season and so Victor came up with these odds for us.
Middlesbrough To Win UEFA Cup and Carling Cup - 80/1
Middlesbrough To Win FA Cup and Carling Cup - 150/1
Middlesbrough To Win UEFA Cup and FA Cup - 250/1
Those odds are so big that I doubt if they would fit in the back of my Mini Metro. I've got to have a fiver on the very first one, Boro winning the UEFA Cup and Carling Cup. I'll get back a gigantic £405 if the lads pull if off and that is from the bet with the shortest odds.
Victor has made these bets available on his website and you can place your selections on the VC site.
You'll need to hit the 'open account' link at the top of the page and then you'll be ready to Back The Boro as they march on to glory and pull off a famous cup double in 2006.
