McCLAREN THINKING OF ENGLAND? 14-4-06
By Betting Zone.

Bet365 are now the only firm offering Steve McClaren at better than evens to be next England boss.

They go 11/10 about the Middlesbrough man becoming Sven-Goran Eriksson's successor, but Skybet are now as short as 4/6.

It has been reported that McClaren's involvement in two cup semi-finals could affect the timing of the announcement, with his Boro side in the last four of both the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup.

One of the figures close to the appointment process said: "We are keenly aware of the sensitive nature of this selection process in relation to managers who are employed by clubs - and that is also the reason this has been dealt with in such a confidential manner.

"If the decision relates to a manager whose club is involved in key matches over the next few weeks then we will be sensitive to that."

Martin O'Neill, who is without a club at the moment, is McClaren's main rival in the betting.

The former Celtic boss is as short as 7/5 with Total Bet, but Skybet go a standout 2/1.

Alan Curbishley, who insists he has had no contact with the FA, has drifted out to 15/2 while Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is now generally 13/1.

Former Brazil and Portugal coach Felipe Scolari is a 40/1 outsider.

O'Neill, who has also been linked with the vacant Newcastle job in recent weeks, is 5/2 to take over at St James' Park.
