THE WEEKEND THAT WAS 13-2-06

Afternoon all. Funny how a decent result on a weekend makes Monday
mornings seem a little easier. Any way, lets get on with this...
Where to start... hmmmmm, let's start with the Boro shall we?
Middlesbrough 3 Chelsea 0
"....and lo, the disciple returned from many months spent in the
wilderness. He entered the citadel to entertain the masses, and even the
heathens sang his name 'F-A-B-I-O R-O-C-H-E-M-B-A-CK, F-A-B-I-O
R-O-C-H-E-M-B-A-C-K....'
The Gospel according to St. Oort.
39. That's the magic number, not 3. 39. After bothering the crowd and
corner flags recently, Oort's favourite player took just eighty seconds to
put Boro fans in heaven (and make me sweat). Downing scored just on half
time, though I still think Mendi got a touch on it. Chelsea threw on a
couple of substitutes in the second half to try and get back into the
game. It didn't work. The Yak scored the third after some wonderful
(hee-hee) defending from Chelsea. There you go... 3-0 Boro. Shockwaves all
over Europe.
Jose Mourinho was later heard in an interview to say 'It was a
magnificent effort from my players, it's just we didn't get the rub of the
green....'
Expect SMc's phone line to be red hot today - Barca boss Frank Rijkaard
is after tips on how to beat Chelsea. Playing Ronaldinho would be a good
start...
...apparently there was some other football played this weekend.
Aston Villa 1 Newcastle 2
He's not the messiah, he's a geordie boy....
The Newcastle Shearer/Roeder double act continues it's winning ways,
two out of two now for Stan & Laurel, although Shearer didn't score his
4,287th goal for Newcastle. We can't wait for him to do it. This loss
puts Villa only two points in front of us, and we've got a game in hand.
Newcastle continue to win their way out of trouble. Bastards.
Sunderland 1 Tottenham 1
Mick's boys must have been inspired by the Boro after another shock
result, come on - who thought they'd get into double figures? Daryl Murphy's late equaliser denied Tottenham all three points after Robbie Keane had
fired them into the lead. It's all a bit academical though for the Mackems
because lets face it... they are down. Tottenham are still challenging for a
Champions League spot.
Fulham 6 West Brom 1
Another result we didn't see coming. Fulham go goal crazy, while
Robbo's West Brom crumble. It's not looking good for West Brom this week after
a good result last week. Fulham though must feel that they will be safe
from relegation this year as this win puts them up to thirteenth place.
The Baggies face a few crucial weeks now. Not least because they play
Boro soon.
Everton 1 Blackburn 0
Bugger me... Everton win 1-0... now that's not happened before. I make
this the sixth 1-0 win in the last ten games. Must be exciting times at
Goodison, with the flowing football they and Blackburn play :o) If you
do go to watch Everton, remember to take your goalkeeper gloves - they
seem to be going through keepers like Vids goes through pies. Allegedly.
Both teams must still be looking to Europe as they occupy tenth and eleventh
places.
Portsmouth 1 Manchester United 3
Bet it was fun in my next door neighbours house with this game. Dad is
a Pompey fan, son is a Manchester United fan. Lua-Lua the only bright spark
for a Portsmouth team that look destined for the drop. United are
maintaining the pressure on Chelsea who dropped three points losing to Boro... did
I mention that?.
Wigan 0 Liverpool 1
Liverpool stay third after this win over seventh placed Wigan, although both
teams can be happy with their season so far. Liverpool look nailed on
for a Champions League spot, while over achieving Wigan must be hopeful
of getting into Europe one way or another.
Last word goes to Mrs Sox... "No wonder your team aren't doing
well... he needs a haircut... so does he... and he does..."
Thats it... more next week, when hopefully we'll have gone through to
the next round of the FA Cup and had a decent result against Stuggart.
