SHUT UP! 24-8-06
Steve Goldby
Ride out, protectors of the realm
Capatin's at the helm, sail across the sea of lights
Circles and rings, dragons and kings
Weaving a charm and a spell
Blessed by the night, holy and bright
Called by the toll of the bell
Bloodied angels fast descending
Moving on a never-bending light
Phantom figures free forever
Out of shadows, shining ever-bright
Neon Knights!

Last night's stunning victory against Chelsea spoke volumes, especially to the harbingers of doom who wrote us off just one game into the season and in some cases, before it had even begun.
So shut up, the 'expert' tipsters who had us down for a long hard relegation battle. We proved that last season's win against the champions was no fluke and we did it in fine style. And it won't be the last 'surprise' that we spring this season.
Shut up, those who said that Gareth Southgate's lack of managerial experience was a hindrance to a developing club and that he lacked the know-how to take the club further. It was Gareth's tactics that brought us a famous win last night and he's shown already that he has what it takes to do this job and do it well.
Shut up, anyone who bemoaned our lack of pre-season signings. You had no faith in the squad we have and the infrastructure already in place. The house that Gibson built is solid and in good shape and whilst one or two additions may enhance it, we'll get by fine if we don't manage to bring anyone in.
Shut up, you so called 'supporters' who wrote off the team after Saturday's Reading match. Haven't you heard of Teesside steel before and don't you know that Boro always do the unexpected? Write this team off at your peril because we always come out fighting when our backs are against the wall.
Shut up all those doubters who said we had no chance of beating Chelsea, despite not having lost at home to a top four side for well over a year now.
Shut up all those who constantly criticise Stuart Parnaby and whose 'expert' opinion is that Emanuel Pogatetz is no centre-half. Parnaby played his part brilliantly last night and Chelsea's galacticos couldn't deal with Mad-Dog at all.
The atmosphere at the Riverside was totally brilliant last night and this goes to show what can be achieved when the crowd are fully behind the team. Those who have just been silenced would do well to bear that in mind.
Perhaps the doubters stayed away last night though because the atmosphere was not just electric but totally positive as well. The twelfth man concept is no myth - it is a reality and a credit to the support of Middlesbrough Football Club and it works as well.
It's time to stop the barrage of badly informed negative opinion from those with extremely limited knowledge of what goes on at the club and extremely limited knowledge of how to get the best out of the squad and engineer victories over our rivals.
It's time to put our trust in Steve Gibson and Gareth Southgate, totally and without question because this is the mark of true support and the very best thing that we can do for the team and the club.
Those who still want to dish out unceasing criticism of Boro, despite last night's result should go and follow Sunderland instead because to doubt Middlesbrough now is to doubt Steve Gibson and all that he has worked for and created.
We're on our way back to Europe, be sure of that.
Until next time.
Steve
