THE BEAN PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW 23-8-06
Christopher Bean

Hello guys and gals, and welcome to the second edition of this season's The Bean Preview. Just a recap from the weekends fixtures; I was rubbish!

I had four out of ten correct predictions, with one spot-on. It would have been two spot-on's if it was not for that pesky Carlton Cole of West Ham. Even so, I better pick up my game or I will end up on the scrapheap rather sharpish!

Watford v West Ham

Watford's return to the top flight turned out to be an unhappy day at Goodison Park on Saturday. Not a lot went their way. A penalty appeal was turned down and Chris Powell was adjudged to handle the ball when it clearly came off his noggin! They will be hoping to avenge the injustice of Saturday at Vicarage Road as they take on the Hammers.

West Ham had a comfortable victory over Charlton despite going a goal down early on. Alan Pardew has the option to start former Manchester United player Jonathan Spector who has overcome a shoulder problem.

I can see this being quite a free flowing match, but with some powerful challenges to throw into the equation. I expect Watford to take an early lead, but will concede late on to get a 1-1 draw.

Prediction 1-1

Best Odds for a 1-1 draw - 9/2 at Paddy Power

Tottenham v Sheffield United

Spurs had a disastrous start to the season on Saturday. Two early first half goals made the Spuds look like relegation contenders, rather than the Champions League hopefuls they were billed as at the start of the season.

They will need to improve drastically on Tuesday evening if they want to take all three points from the visiting Sheffield Utd.

The Blades had a great start to the season, and were unfortunate not to take all three points. They may well have doen that if it was not for a dodgy penalty decision in favour of Liverpool.

The Yorkshire side have got a good record against Spurs in the Premiership. In the previous four meetings they have won one, drawn two and lost one.

Tottenham are going to have a really tough match tonight. The Blades did not give up against Liverpool and nearly provided a massive shock. However White Hart Lane was a fortress last season, and I can see it being the same again this season. Spurs to narrowly win 2-1.

Prediction 2-1 to Tottenham

Best odds for a 2-1 Spurs win - 8/1 at Sporting Odds

Wednesday's games to follow later!
