THE BEAN PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW 28-8-06
Christopher Bean

Middlesbrough v Portsmouth
What a difference a game makes eh? After the Reading match the natives in Teesside were thinking of the worst that could happen, but a win over the champions has made the half empty pint glass turn into a half full pint glass overnight. There are still some problems that need to be ironed out soon, but a couple of additions before 31st August would give us Smoggies a bigger lift for the new season.
Portsmouth have made a good start to the season, after racking up four points from the opening two games. Pompey will be without their talented midfielder Pedro Mendes, as he is still counting his teeth after Ben Thatcher committed GBH on the poor fella on Wednesday night.
Confidence is running high in the Boro camp at the moment and we are expected to follow up on our 2-1 victory over our Hampshire opponents, and I believe we can, just in the typical Boro way though. There are still reservations about our defence so it will be a case of outscoring Pompey, so with that it will be a 3-2 victory to Boro.
Prediction - Boro to win 3-2
Best odds for a 3-2 Boro win - 11/2 with William Hill
