THE BEAN PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW 30-9-06
Christopher Bean

Good day one and all, and welcome to yet another edition of the fallible Bean Preview.

Bucking the trend of recent weeks, I actually had a good crack at last weekend's fixtures. I correctly predicted seven results out of nine, with one spot on result as Reading drew with Manchester United 1-1. Hopefully I can produce similar goods again this week.

Bolton v Liverpool

Bolton 3/1 with BetDirect
Draw 9/4 with Total Bet
Liverpool 11/10 with Stan James

Liverpool have a short trip away this weekend as they go up the road to The Reebok Stadium for a North West derby with Bolton. Both teams have made solid starts to the season and are neck and neck in the league. Bolton are currently sixth whilst the Scousers are a point and a position behind in seventh.

This should be a tough scrap, but I think both strike forces will be BUNGed up in the penalty area by solid defending. This match has a draw written all over it.

Prediction - 1-1 (11/2 with Victor Chandler)

Charlton v Arsenal

Charlton 11/2 with Bet365
Draw 12/5 with Skybet)
Arsenal 4/7 with Stan James

After a slow stuttering start to the season, Arsenal are starting to look like the team of old after two confidence building performances in the Champions League and crowning the first win at the Emirates with the demolition of Sheffield United. The Gunners travel over the river to face Iain Dowie's Charlton who have only picked up points in one match so far this season after a victory against Bolton.

The Addicks look really slack at the back, and have been misfiring in front of the net after only amassing four goals so far. I am afraid it is going to be defeat number six from seven games for the home side, as Arsenal will cruise to a 2-0 victory.

Prediction - 2-0 to Arsenal (6/1 with Ladbrokes)

Chelsea v Aston Villa

Chelsea 1/3 with Ladbrokes
Draw 4/1 with Victor Chandler
Aston Villa 9/1 with Total Bet

It is Cold War II at Stamford Bridge this afternoon, as the two financial superpowers of the Premiership collide. In the blue corner hailing from Russia, making his fortune in Russian oil fields it is Roman Abromovich. And in the Claret corner hailing from the United States of America, making his fortune in the finance industry and current chairman of MBNA credit cards, he is the only chairman in the country who has a name that sounds like a porn star virgin, Randy Lerner!

All joking aside this will be an interesting encounter as Chelsea are currently top of the league, whilst Villa are only one of two clubs who are undefeated in the Premiership. I am afraid for Martin O'Neill he will have his first taste of defeat as Chelsea will run home winners.

Prediction - Chelsea to win 2-1 (8/1 with Premier Bet)

Everton v Manchester City

Everton 5/6 with Stan James
Draw 12/5 with Premier Bet
Man City 4/1 with Ladbrokes

What a start to the season David Moyes and Everton have had. Currently undefeated and lying fourth in the league, it could not get much sweeter for the Toffees (arf!). Although the same can not be said for their opposition at Goodison on Saturday as they welcome Manchester City. Stuart Pearce is a man under fire by his fans, but he managed to pick his players up to beat an under par West Ham team last weekend.

Pearce will be back in the quagmire of Fleet Street inquisition by Saturday tea-time as City are going to struggle at free-scoring Everton, and will get stuffed 3-1.

Prediction - Everton to win 3-1 (14/1 With Sporting Odds)

Sheffield United v Middlesbrough

Sheff Utd 7/4 with Total Bet
Draw 9/4 with Bet365
Middlesbrough 17/10 with BetDirect

It is not pleasant being a Boro fan at the moment, I can assure you. It does not look like we can score from anywhere, and our midfield is a laughing stock. Fortunately we are playing a team who also cannot score and have not picked up a win yet. Also the inclusion of George Boateng and Stuart Downing in the squad is a huge boost.

Normally there is a big flashing neon sign indicating we will get beat in this fixture as it is "typical Boro". But I believe we can overcome it this weekend. And with Woody in defence we can keep a clean sheet and nick a goal at the death.

Prediction 1-0 to Boro (7/1 with Coral)
