THE BEAN PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW 1-10-06
Christopher Bean

Hello and welcome to the second part of this weekend's Bean Preview. This has been forced due to the European fixtures from Thursday night. Ahhhh how I long for Boro to play fixtures on a Sunday regularly again...

West Ham v Reading

West Ham 21/20 with Total Bet
Draw 12/5 with Victor Chandler
Reading 3/1 with Paddy Power

At the start of the month West Ham were on a crest of a successful wave after making a brilliant start to the season. They were also bolstered by the signings of the Argentinean duo of Tevez and Mascherano. But the wave has turned into a whirlpool of despair. The Hammers have lost the last four games, and were easily disposed of in the UEFA Cup by little known Italian team Palermo who has a similar history to Middlesbrough. Just with a bit more Soprano Action involved. The Londoners welcome Reading to Upton Park, who have been the most pro-active of the promoted teams.

This should be an interesting contest, but Alan Pardew's team better win or they could find horses heads in their beds thanks to their fans. Capiche?

Prediction - 2-1 to West Ham (7/1 with Coral)

Blackburn v Wigan

Blackburn Evens with Premier Bet
Draw 12/5 with Victor Chandler
Wigan 10/3 with Betfred

Congratulations are in order to Mark Hughes and Blackburn after they took on and defeated the mighty conglomerate of Red Bull in the UEFA Cup on Thursday evening. But it is back to the bread and butter of the league as they take on near-rivals Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park. The Latics are looking for their first away win of the season.

It will be a nip and tuck affair in Lancashire this afternoon and it will only be decided by the odd goal, and I favour Blackburn to get it. A 1-0 win to the home team.

Prediction - 1-0 to Blackburn (6/1 with Ladbrokes)

Manchester United v Newcastle

Manchester United 1/3 with Paddy Power
Draw 7/2 with Premier Bet
Newcastle 12/1 with Bet365

After successfully keeping up their 100% record in the Champions League this week, Manchester United have the opportunity to reclaim top spot in the table. This has arisen due to the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge yesterday. Newcastle United stand in the way of Fergie's men's ascent up the league. The Geordies comfortably knocked out some sheep farmers from Estonia in the Uefa Cup in midweek.

Martins maybe finally hitting the net for the Toon Army, but it will be not enough for the Geordies as Manchester United always spank them at Old Trafford. Also look out for a wonder goal by Wayne Rooney, as not only has he got a fetish for grandmothers he also likes scoring thirty yard thunderbolts against teams in black and white.

Prediction 3-0 to Man Utd (15/2 with Premier Bet)

Tottenham v Portsmouth

Tottenham 10/11 with BetDirect
Draw 5/2 with Total Bet
Portsmouth 10/3 with Bet365

At the start of the season you would have predicted Spurs to be in the top four and Portsmouth to be struggling in the relegation zone at this stage in the season, not vice-versa. Well believe it or not that's what is happening. The only solace for Tottenham fans is that they successfully qualified for the group stages of the UEFA Cup.

After Bolton finally burst Harry's bubble on the south coast, I think Pompey will slowly dwindle down to mediocrity rather soonish. But with Tottenham being so poor in the league so far this season I fancy Portsmouth nicking a point at White Hart Lane.

Prediction - 1-1 (11/2 with Skybet)
