BORO v BLACKBURN CARLING CUP TEAM NEWS 21-12-05

Chris Riggott is back after serving the one match suspension that he received for the sending off at Liverpool and is tipped to start.

James Morrison has not been ruled out, despite suffering concussion in the Spurs game on Sunday and is a possible starter but Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink remains doubtful after also missing the Spurs game.

Blackburn have Craig Bellamy and Ryan Nelsen possibly back in contention after being sidelined with hamstring problems.

Winger Morten Gamst Pedersen is doubtful with knee and heel injuries.

Boro skipper Gareth Southgate said "We need this victory and if we can get into the semi-finals, there's no reason why we can't go all the way again. We're playing our league matches like cup ties at the moment, so we should have no worries there. I just hope we get a good crowd, this is a huge game for the club."

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes was equally upbeat about the cup.

"You don't get that many opportunities to win trophies and that is what I have been emphasising. The Carling Cup is a realistic goal. We set out our stall out this season to go far in the competition and we're looking to progress further. We have showed it the respect it deserves and got success from that."

Middlesbrough Squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Bates, Queudrue, Pogatetz, Southgate, Riggott, Ehiogu, Wheater, Boateng, Doriva, Morrison, Rochemback, Johnson, Kennedy, Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Viduka, Maccarone.
