LIVERPOOL v BORO BIG MATCH FACTS
Liverpool go searching for a seventh successive Premiership victory in Saturday's early clash and a stright tem in all competitions. Without conceding a goal...
A clean sheer tomorrow will see Liverpool equal their club record which was set between December 1987 and February 1988. Rafael Benitez' side took their undefeated run in all competitions to nine games with Tuesday's goalless draw at Chelsea, which saw them win Group G in the Champions League.
Rafa's Reds are on the club's longest winning top flight run since recording seven on a roll between 14 September and 2 November 2002. They've accrued two points a game on average so far this season, and all three points from the visit of Boro would lift Liverpool to second in the table, as happened last Saturday when they won the lunchtime fixture against Wigan 3-0.
Liverpool enjoy an unbeaten home Premiership record against Middlesbrough. They've not lost a League game at Anfield to us since we triumphed 2-0 on 6th March 1976. Since then 'Pool have chalked up eleven wins and six draws in League matches against Boro.
This is Boro's 400th game in the Premier League and Steve McClaren's men will be keen to avoid back-to-back defeats for the first time in 23 Premiership outings, and are desperate to prevent a fourth successive League defeat on the road.
Boro have been beaten at West Ham, Everton and Chelsea consecutively on their top flight travels, but have not lost successively home and away in the highest League since defeats to Aston Villa (a) and Southampton (h) in March.
Boro have won two of their last five Premiership outings, but lost three of the last six. We've failed to score in three League and Cup matches away from the Riverside, and if we concede twice at Anfield, it will take the goals against column away from home all-time in the Premier League to 300.
The current Premiership campaign opened in a goalless stalemate between these sides at the Riverside. Boro held out, despite playing the last sixteen minutes with ten men after Ugo Ehiogu got his marching orders for tripping Steven Gerrard as the Liverpool star burst into the box on the break.
Last season's corresponding fixture was 1-1. Szilard Nemeth ran through the defence to curl in a superb opener after four minutes. Gerrard grabbed a deserved equaliser for the Merseysiers with a fantastic long-range drive seven minutes after the restart.
