BORO v MANCHESTER CITY TEAM NEWS
Boro's injury list is once again growing with at least one new name added this week and no returns for the final game of 2005.
Captain Gareth Southgate will take a late fitness test this afternoon to determine whether he is fit after suffering a dead leg.
Brazilian midfielder Fabio Rochemback has sustained a calf injury and is definitely out of the next two matches.
Still injured are George Boateng, Ray Parlour, Stewart Downing, Gaizka Mendieta, Malcolm Christie, Tony McMahon and Szilard Nemeth.
Manchester City have a full strength squad apart from Claudio Reyna who has a broken ankle and ex-Boro defender Danny Mills doubtful with a shin injury.
That means Nedum Onuoha should continue at full-back, with Sun Jihai operating alongside Joey Barton in midfield in a team that could well be unchanged from Wednesday's match with Chelsea.
Middlesbrough Squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Parnaby, Queudrue, Pogatetz, Riggott, Southgate, Ehiogu, Bates, Wheater, Dorivas, Morrison, Johnson, Kennedy, Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Viduka, Maccarone.
Manchester City Squad: James, De Vlieger, Onuoha, Sun, Sommeil, Dunne, Distin, Thatcher, Jordan, Sinclair, Croft, Barton, Ireland, Musampa, Cole, Vassell, Wright-Phillips, Fowler.
Boro boss Steve McClaren said:
"Against Tottenham earlier this month, 95% of our play was excellent and we conceded three goals from individual errors. We have to make sure we guard against that because if we do we will start collecting points and winning matches."
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce said:
"In an ideal world, we will still qualify for Europe. If that proves to be unachievable, I will have to sit down with the board of directors and discuss the situation with them. At this stage the Intertoto Cup is something we cannot turn down but we will not decide until nearer the time."
