BORO v NUNEATON BOROUGH - FROM THE AWAY END
Phil Moore aka CNN

When the teams enter the field on Tuesday night, Nuneaton Borough will be led out by captain Neil Moore. Like all top sportsmen should, Neil has a sponsorship deal, but this one is a little bit different.

Phil is sponsored by CNN. No, not the repetitive American cable television news channel, but CNN, the messageboard user name of Mr and Mrs Phil Moore, who are no relation to the Borough captain incidentally.

Phil and his good lady were married on 5th May 2005, or 05.05.05 for the numerologists amongst you, and chose to sponsor Neil because he is the Nuneaton Borough number 5.

Over to Phil to give us the lowdown on his Nuneaton Borough history and an explanation of why it is certain that Middlesbrough will go through to the fourth round on penalties.

****************

I started watching the Boro during the 1974-75 season and remained in this happy state until around 1980 when I left the area and indeed the planet (football).

On my return to reality in 1998 I caught the end of the season when we were promoted back into the Conference. The start of the 1998-99 season saw my future wife introduced to the game and we have been going there ever since.

We are season ticket holders and get to most home games, standing on the Cock & Bear terraces, although we usually only make a handful of away games each year owing to that ever present and anoying problem, life.

Largely anonymous (although we do like to join in the singing) my only, rather tenuous claim to fame is that my cousin 'Pugsy' was once hit in the face by a ball which Bob Turpie launched over the bar during the warm up... I think that was in 1975.

Interestingly, my wife, before we were married, was living in Kent and she dreamt that I was in an earthquake. She phoned me the following evening to tell me all about it. I was waiting with my 'hot' news - that there had been a major earthquake in Warwick the night before which had really shook the house.

Last year, throughout Xmas she was getting increasing premonitions of 'planetary doom' and dreaming of a disaster on a tropical shore. We woke on Boxing Day and she announced the feeling of doom had completely gone, but that something was very wrong. We turned on the radio to find news of the Asian tsunami...

After the first Histon game she dreamt that we would go out of the cup this year on penalties - but NOT to Histon. Another team in red would put us out - and frankly, if this happens on Tuesday night I am definitely getting her hypnotised to get the following week's lottery numbers out of her!

We are really excited at the prospect of visiting the Riverside - previously, the 'best' stadium we have seen the Boro at was the Britannia at Stoke, where we took 2500 - and it will be great to see our team enjoying the experieince of playing there.

Hopefully those travelling up with us, the 'normal' Nuneaton Borough fans, will help us to make it a really great and atmospheric night. I think as of last night there were around 200 of the 4900 tickets left. There are twenty-six 'official' coaches and at least eleven 'unofficial' ones booked - we normally take one or two away (between 100 and 400 travel depending on venue, although we take 1000+ for the local derby with neighbours Hinckley).

To be honest I feared a 4 or 5 - 0 drubbing awaited last Saturday and my benchmark for success was to 'do OK', the 'dream' was to get a draw and a big pay day for the club and that this happened left everyone completely stunned...

Hopefully we'll see another 'classic' on Tuesday and may the best team on the night win...
