STUTTGART v BORO - VIEW FROM THE STUTTGART END II
Guts

Swabian fans are not easily impressed and are also very easy to annoy. It's not that we don't like our team or anything else. It's just some sort of widespread disease that we all have where we moan about anything and anybody, as strangers would see it. Only that it's not a disease for us. In fact we love it and we need it.

Ever since the so called Magath era - you might remember the victory over the great Manchester United in the Champions League - the fans of VfB Stuttgart have high expectations concerning the teams performance. We do not only want our team to win, we want to be entertained by it in the stadium.

So it often happens that our team is booed off the pitch by half the stadium and under our former coach Giovanni Trappatoni, it even happened at half-time sometimes. It's obvious that the team cannot live up to our expectations, so far.

With our new coach Armin Veh (former coach of Rostock, Reutlingen, Fürth and Augsburg) being in office for only 24 hours we lost against DSC Arminia Bielefeld last Saturday. He had only four days to prepare the team for the Uefa cup match against the Boro. Considering the time he had for Saturday this match is his first real chance to prove that our management did the right thing at the right time.

People in the region are setting their hopes on the upcoming match. If VfB achieve a good performance it could mark the turning point of the season. After all we can still reach our goal to qualify for an international competition.

If we lose the team faces hard times as we need the money from the Uefa cup to hold the team and key players together. But life is no musical request programme as Franz Beckenbauer recently said. So may the best team win.
