SUNDERLAND v MIDDLESBROUGH BIG MATCH FACTS
Tonight's match at The Stadium of Light is Steve McClaren's 175th Premiership match in charge of Middlesbrough. Three points are a must and if we do it, it will be our 125th victory in Premier League history.
Boro are looking for a third consecutive Premiership maximum at the Stadium of Light after winning 1-0 in January 2002 and 3-1 in February 2003. We are however without a victory in nine league games and we've not won in eight in all competitions away from home since defeating Everton in the Carling Cup at Goodison on 26th October.
Boro are one place and three points above the relegation trap door and an unthinkable defeat tonight coupled with a Birmingham win at Anfield tomorrow will see us join Sunderland in the drop zone.
Sunderland are looking for a first ever Premiership 'double' over Boro and a thirteenth of all-time, following their 2-0 success in the horror show at the Riverside in September. That was Sunderland's first Premiership win this season and only one of two so far, both victories coming in away matches.
Boro and Sunderland have conceded eighty goals in fourty-four matches between them this season and are bottom two in the last six matches current form table. Sunderland are nineteenth, Middlesbrough are twentieth.
Both clubs have kept just three clean sheets between them in the league this season. So expect a 0-0 tonight then.
