BORO v VILLA BIG MATCH FACTS
Another must-win game today as defeat would see Boro slip back to fourth bottom, should West Brom beat Blackburn at the Hawthorns.
Boro have only gained only three points from the last possible fifteen at the Riverside through draws with West Brom, Tottenham and Manchester City. We've not won at home since the victory over Fulham on 20th November. Arsenal and Manchester United are the only other clubs to have been beaten at The Riverside this season.
The 3-0 win at Sunderland on Tuesday ended a nine match Premier league winless run. Boro are now looking to complete back-to-back victories for the first time in forty-seven Premiership outings. The last time it happened was in the games at West Brom and at home to Liverpool on 14th and 20th November 2004.
Boro have never done the double over Aston Villa in the Premiership but a win today will make it nine times since we first played in the league in 1902. Boro won the match at Villa Park in October 3-2.
Gareth Southgate will be making his 500th career league appearance against his former club, if he plays.
Villa need one more win to clock up their 200th Premier League victory. The Midlanders have ended their last two Premiership matches all square, against Chelsea and Tottenham. Villa are the draw specialists of the top flight with nine altogether.
But Middlesbrough have accumulated five 0-0's in home matches to Villa's four. Both clubs have conceded readily in the last fifteen minutes of Premiership games this season with Villa letting in ten in the last quarter-hour period and Boro a Premiership highest eleven.
Villa are hunting a third win in four Premiership visits to Middlesbrough, and a sixth in all. Their most recent win on Teesside was 2-1 on 24th April 2004 when Gareth Barry and Peter Crouch got the goals.
