MIDDLESBROUGH v WEST BROM MATCH FACTS

I'm sure you're tired of hearing this but Boro have not enjoyed back-to-back Premiership victories since 14th and 20th November last year when we defeated West Brom and Liverpool.

If Boro can show the same stout defending that they demonstrated on Thursday, then on paper, that statistic should disappear today.

Boro are looking for a third consecutive home league win and should be spurred on by the signing of Steve McClaren's new contract this week and hopefully not distracted by the Abel Xavier situation.

This is Boro's 200th home Premier League match and a win will bring successive victories in Sunday Premiership fixtures for the first time under McClaren.

Since the ex Manchester United assistant manager took over at the Riverside we've played thirty-two league matches on Sundays, with a dreadful record of five wins, eleven draws and sixteen defeats, scoring twenty-seven and conceded a whopping fourty-nine.

We have a 100% home Premiership record against West Brom, with a watertight defence, the last two fixtures bringing 3-0 and 4-0 victories.

This is Bryan Robson's fourtieth Premiership match in charge of West Brom and the former Boro boss is looking for the ninth win of his tenure and a first away maximum of this top flight season.

If The Baggies can follow last weekend's 4-0 home thrashing of Everton with another victory, they will have acheived their first back-to-back league wins since 19 March and 3 April when they saw off Charlton and Everton.

The Baggies have lost eight of the last eleven league matches and failed to score in four of the last six. This is Albion's ninetieth Premier League game and only fifteen have resulted in wins.

Albion's only Premiership victory over Middlesbrough was 1-0 in their first Premier League clash on 30th November 2002, at the Hawthorns. But they've not recorded a League maximum on Boro turf for 53 years.

That was a 1-0 win on 9 February 1952 in the top flight. They've since drawn four and lost thirteen of their subsequent seventeen League visits to Middlesbrough, and go to the Riverside hoping to avoid a seventh successive League defeat on Teesside.
