FULHAM v MIDDLESBROUGH - BETTING ZONE PREVIEW
Jonathan Turner
It's quite hard to make a strong case for either Fulham or Middlesbrough ahead of Monday night's televised clash in the Premiership.
Fulham had a great home record last season but they've not been so strong at Craven Cottage this term - losing three of their eight games so far.
They also come into the match on the back of a 4-0 mauling at Liverpool last time when they set themselves up for a draw and crumbled horribly after falling behind in the second half.
And they are having to cope with a crippling injury list which got even longer after that Anfield clash as skipper Luis Boa Morte, fellow midfielder Papa Bouba Diop and defender Ian Pearce joined the casualty list.
But so many of those problems are common to Middlesbrough.
Their away record is truly awful - P8 W0 D3 L5, they are out of form (just six points from the last 24 on offer) and are also decimated by injuries.
The clue to the way Monday's game may pan out comes from Fulham boss Chris Coleman who admitted: "I think we'll probably see a grittier Fulham, we're going to have to be because we've lost so many players."
That's been reflected in recent results, with the Cottagers managing just six goals in their last nine matches.
And given that you have to go back ten matches for the last time Boro managed to score more than one goal in a game it's clear this is unlikely to be a classic.
Throw in the fact that both teams are mired in the bottom six and desperate for the points and the 9/4 chalked up by Ladbrokes about one goal or less in the match stands out as a worthwhile bet.
Of the other markets there's a temptation to take a look at Moritz Volz to find the net at some point at a whopping 18/1 with Extrabet .
The defender has been pushed into midfield because of Fulham's injury problems and he scored against Aston Villa earlier this season in a similar role.
However that remains his only league goal for Fulham so we'll resist the temptation to get involved.
