Jonathan Woodgate has been named in the Middlesbrough squad for Sunday's season-closing Barclays Premiership clash with Fulham at the Riverside despite suffering from a knee problem.

The classy defender will go under the knife on Monday for an exploratory operation on his left knee after playing with a 'niggle' for the past few weeks.

Fellow defender Andrew Taylor has already had an operation on a toe condition and misses out with Emanuel Pogatetz expected to slot in at left-back. Chris Riggott, the favourite to replace the Austrian and partner Woodgate in the centre, has an ankle injury, as has Robert Huth. Rookie David Wheater is favourite to stand-in.

Midfielders Michael Brown and Papa Bouba Diop are suspended for Fulham.

Brown begins a three-match ban imposed by the Football Association for head-butting Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso last weekend, while Diop was sent-off against the Reds.

Left-back Franck Queudrue has recovered from his ankle injury but central defender Ian Pearce remains in the treatment room with a calf problem.

Italian striker Vincenzo Montella is out with a groin injury.

Middlesbrough (from): Schwarzer, Davies, Pogatetz, Woodgate, Wheater, Arca, Rochemback, Downing, Boateng, Viduka, Yakubu, Jones, Parnaby, Cattermole, Morrison, Johnson, Lee.

Fulham (from): Niemi, Volz, Bocanegra, Knight, Queudrue, Rosenior, Radzinski, McBride, Routledge, C Jensen, Davies, Smertin, Christanval, Helguson, Lastuvka, John, Dempsey.
