FRANK AIMS TO EMULATE BLUES FORM

Frank Lampard has vowed to put his own below-par World Cup campaign behind him by achieving the same goal ratio for England he has displayed for Chelsea.

Lampard was disappointed with his failure to find the target in five matches in Germany as Sven-Goran Eriksson's side crashed out at the quarter-final stage.

He still has a healthy ratio of 12 goals in 46 internationals ahead of Saturday's European Championships qualifier with Andorra at Old Trafford and is the leading marksman in the current squad.

But the 28-year-old wants to improve on that return and emulate the finishing power he demonstrates for Chelsea where he has become established as a 20-goals-a-season player.

He said: "I'd like to get up to the same goal ratio with England as at club level. I was getting towards that before the World Cup and five or six games without a goal knocked that back again!

"That happens. You don't get opportunities at times or they don't go in for you at times. I would love to have the same ratio for England as I have for Chelsea."

Lampard ended that barren summer sequence for his country by hitting the target in the 4-0 win over Greece in the friendly international a fortnight ago.

He said: "The goal was nice and a relief. It is well documented that I didn't score in the World Cup. I tried my hardest to do that.

"It would have made me very happy to contribute goals to the World Cup and be very successful. When that doesn't happen you want to bounce back from it as soon as possible and no better time than the first game after that."

Lampard has been impressed but unsurprised with the way Chelsea team-mate John Terry has acclimatised to the demands of the England captaincy.

He said: "John took to it exactly how I knew he would take to it - really well. There were other options but John is a great choice and he did it in a great way. He is a great leader for Chelsea and he will be for England as well.

"He didn't come in charging around and throwing himself about as the new England captain. He is a lads' lad. He talked to the lads in the same way as he always does anyway and I'm sure he will grow into the role even more.

"I haven't seen a particular difference in him and that's one of the beauties of 'JT'. I don't think he'll change or get carried away with himself.

"He leads very well at Chelsea. I'm used to the way he leads. He's great with the lads, great on the pitch, off the pitch and he's bringing that over to being England captain."
