TAYLOR - YOUNGSTERS MUST LEARN
England Under-21 boss Peter Taylor believes his youngsters must learn quickly from their disappointing start to the European Championship qualifiers if they are to win in Switzerland and remain in the competition.
Drawing against Moldova last month means England must win in Lucerne on Wednesday to progress from the three-team group and qualify for a play-off to reach next year's finals.
Moldova impressed at Portman Road but were defeated by Switzerland at the weekend, putting the Swiss in the box seat to top the group, as they only need a point against England.
"We didn't play well enough that night," said Taylor of the 2-2 draw last time out.
"We kept giving the ball away cheaply and I didn't think we were patient enough on the ball.
"We've got to do all of those things right to do well against a good team like Switzerland."
Crystal Palace manager Taylor, who is in charge on a match-by-match basis until England boss Steve McClaren hires a full-time under-21 coach, is hoping to fare better than his last qualifying campaign when his side lost a play-off against France.
"We know what we've got to do, we must go there and get the win," Taylor said on thefa.com.
"But we know they will be a good test for us, they are a very good side.
"The 11 players who start for us on Wednesday will be up for it and will be looking to get into that play-off."
