ENGLAND v MACEDONIA - KATANEC TO STICK TO USUAL GAMEPLAN

FYR Macedonia will not adopt a defensive approach when they face England at Old Trafford on Saturday, according to coach Srecko Katanec.

England have an unblemished record under new coach Steve McClaren, including a 1-0 win in Skopje last month, while they also possess a formidable record at the home of Manchester United, the national team's venue of choice with Wembley still not complete.

But Katanec is undaunted, insisting he will send his side out with instructions to stick to their usual gameplan.

"We won't change our philosophy, especially not here," he said.

"We won't change our tactics, we'll play our game rather than adapt to our rivals.

"We plan to start the same as in Skopje but that does not mean that it couldn't be changed five minutes after the game has started.

"I hope that we can score first, then it would be easier."

As for playing in front of a sold-out Old Trafford, Katanec was unperturbed, adding: "We are prepared, motivated and we are geared up for the match to come.

"We don't have any players out injured and have everything we need.

"There's no better feeling then to play in front of a jam-packed Old Trafford.

"There's no fear of the crowd because most of the Macedonian players are used to it."

Much of England's attacking emphasis will be placed on the shoulders of Wayne Rooney even though he has had a slow start to the season with Manchester United.

But Katanec played down the influence the former Everton man has, preferring instead to focus on his own side.

"There's no difference for me if England play with or without Rooney," he said.

"They don't change their style very often but maybe as hosts they'll be more aggressive.

"However, if we play as a team then everything is possible.

"England played as a team in the last 20 minutes in Skopje and kept the advantage by doing so."
