CROATIA v ENGLAND - FERDINAND RETURNS AS KING RESTS

Rio Ferdinand was back in training for England today but Ledley King watched from the sidelines.

Ferdinand was declared fit after the back spasm which ruled him out of Saturday's goalless draw with Macedonia.

The Manchester United defender will join Steve McClaren's squad on the flight to Zagreb ahead of Wednesday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.

McClaren said: "Rio trained today and it's good to have him back with us.

"He will be travelling with the squad and we expect him to train tomorrow in Croatia, providing there's no reaction.

"Ledley King missed training but is also expected to train with the rest of the squad tomorrow."

King replaced Ferdinand in the centre of defence against Macedonia but his absence from training today was purely precautionary.

The Spurs captain had a knee operation in the summer and still experiences a small reaction to it after some games.

King could have a key role to play for England in Zagreb if McClaren decides to move him into the midfield holding position.
