CROATIA v ENGLAND - BILIC: ROONEY BANS TO BLAME FOR SLUMP

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic believes the Football Association must take part of the blame for Wayne Rooney's slump in form.

The 20-year-old is expected to start for England against Croatia in Zagreb on Wednesday night despite a poor start to the season.

The Manchester United striker has lacked sharpness, and was not helped by being forced to serve a three-match club ban earlier in the season. The suspension was imposed by the Dutch FA for a red card in a pre-season friendly and it was subsequently upheld by officials at Soho Square. In addition to that, Rooney served a two-match international ban for his dismissal in the World Cup quarter-final against Portugal in the summer.

Bilic, a former West Ham and Everton defender, said: "Rooney is a striker in crisis because he is not getting any consistency.

"His anger is his asset but he has got to direct it positively. It is not easy to be Wayne Rooney right now.

"He is a natural talent but if you look at his career he is either injured or getting a ban from the English FA, so his game lacks consistency. Just as he gets into the swing of things, he has to stop playing."
