Arjen Robben has tipped England to enjoy a swift change in fortune.

Although Robben will be part of a Holland side eager to inflict more misery on Steve McClaren's men following their Euro 2008 qualifying woes last month, the Chelsea winger believes there is too much talent in the England camp for them to be down in the doldrums for long.

And while he accepts the home draw with Macedonia and defeat in Croatia are bound to attract criticism, Robben feels the pundits eager to wade into the England side should stand back and take a more detached assessment of how difficult results are to achieve at international level.

He said: "Of course, the last two results were disappointing for England.

"You want to win all your games, especially the home ones and England should beat teams like Macedonia.

"But if you look at the way football is nowadays, it is no longer so easy for bigger teams to beat smaller ones.

"People think England will win these matches by four or five goals but it is hard.

"There is a lot of expectation on England because they have such a great squad, with so many good players. It is natural people think they will do well.

"But every team has bad days and gets bad results sometimes. It doesn't mean they are a bad team. With the quality they have I am pretty certain the situation will change very quickly."

Given the mountain of fixtures Chelsea have played over the past few weeks, Robben claims there has been little time for dressing-room banter with John Terry, Frank Lampard and Shaun Wright-Phillips, all of whom could be in the England starting line-up at the Amsterdam Arena.

Instead, Robben offered his own personal tribute to Terry, his captain at Stamford Bridge and the man who will lead the defence he must try and beat in the Dutch capital.

"John is not only a great player," said the former PSV Eindhoven player. "He is also a great leader, a great person and a great character.

"As a footballer he has everything and I am really happy that I play in a team with someone like him.

"To have him as a captain is fantastic. He is someone we can all look up to."
