The Brazil team set to take the field against Portugal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday will be full of respect for the man directing affairs from the opposing bench.

Luiz Felipe Scolari led his native Brazil to World Cup success - and among many others, Gilberto Silva holds the Portugal coach in the highest regard, not least because it was he who gave the midfielder his international debut six years ago.

Gilberto, 30, will line up on his home ground in a team missing Ronaldinho because of a calf injury, on a night when London fans are spoiled by four international friendlies.

For Gilberto, though, it will still be a significant occasion as he tries to help his national coach Dunga get the better of Scolari - an opponent still revered in Brazil.

"I really admire him - and I'll always be grateful to him for what he did for my career," said Gilberto.

Coming up against Scolari presents a real challenge for Dunga, just months after taking the job.

"Scolari is an excellent competitor," he said. "He won a World Cup - no one can question him. Without doubt, he is one of the best in the world.

"But as a manager I have to apply what I learned as a player and what I learned in life."

As well as Ronaldinho, Brazil will also be missing Robinho as they seek a fifth straight victory .
