MIDDLESBROUGH v NEWCASTLE BETTING ZONE PREVIEW

Boro know better than most the difficulty of playing in the UEFA Cup on Thursday night and then in the Premiership the following weekend and that's what a stretched Newcastle squad have got to overcome here.
The Magpies have a fantastic record in this fixture though - winning six and drawing three of the ten Premiership clashes between the pair at the Riverside - which muddies the picture somewhat.
The conflicting signals continue as both sides have made frustrating and inconsistent starts to the season. Boro will at least have taken plenty of encouragement from last week's success against Everton which suggests Gareth Southgate's men are beginning to move in the right direction.
The problem for Newcastle, now without a league win for over a month, continues to be the lack of a cutting edge up front as they've managed just seven goals in eight games so far.
If pushed we'd therefore side with Boro but this is a game we're happy to leave well alone.
Verdict: Middlesbrough 1 Newcastle 0
