As England fans get football fever, some of the country's leading sporting, music, and acting Stars are 'Standing Up' in support of a World Cup Anthem that is creating quite a buzz in the industry. Young band ESSEX BAND 'Koopa have recorded the original, rousing and uplifting 'Stand Up 4 England', out on 5th June, in aid of Barnardo's, a great charity that helps give children and young people a better start in life.
England International Joe Cole who requested his own personal copy said, "Stand Up 4 England is the business, we even play it on the team coach." Joe is not alone in his support of the song, England colleague's John Terry and Frank Lampard also rate it very highly and have their own copies.
England Cricketer and Strictly Come Dancing Champion Darren Gough (Essex Cricket Club) was impressed enough to feature in the video and shows he is no mean footballer. If Sven is looking for a ready made surprise replacement for Wayne Rooney perhaps he should give Darren a call-up! Darren said "Stand Up 4 England is a great Anthem and as a keen football fan it's exciting to be doing my bit for the cause"
The following celebrities have shown their support for this charity record by appearing in the fun-fuelled video.... Former England stars Gazza, John Barnes and Les Ferdinand (who were all seen in England's Soccer Aid last week on ITV), as well as other former international football stars Lee Sharpe, Ray Wilkins, Matt LeTissier, Paul Merson, Paul Parker and ex German World Cup Winning Captain Lothar Matheus, who shows his great sense of humour by refusing to Stand up 4 England!. From the world of football also come... Barry Fry and Neil Danns (Colchester United).
Also from the world of sport we have Matt Dawson, Ben Cohen, Nigel Benn, Damon Hill, Martin Offiah and Darren Gough. Representing the music industry are Richard Ashcroft and Beautiful South front man Paul Heaton.
The world of acting is well represented by Philip Olivier (The Match, The Games), Scott Marslen & Alex Walkinshaw of The Bill, Rupert Graves, Danny Dyer (Football Factory and The Business), Max Beesly (Bodies & Hotel Babylon) and cast members from Sky's Soccer-Soap Drama Dream Team, Junior Nunoo, Darren Tyson, Alex Lawler and Rob Kazinsky (who has just joined Eastenders as Sean Slater)
And last but by no means least, let's not forget..... The Legend that is Boris Johnson!
'Stand Up 4 England' has been adopted by EnglandFans (the official England Fans club), FSF (Football Supporters Federation) and numerous other organisations. Even
Ladbrokes have faith in the song offering only 8/1 on it reaching Number One.
The song, penned by Paul Baker (who played on Bravo TV's 'Fashanu's Football Challenge') has been a firm favourite for 'Best Unofficial Anthem' on Talksport and the band recently performed at the England v Germany Legends Game, to a standing ovation.
Richard Ashcroft was impressed enough to tell the boys, "I hope you sell a million" and the song was featured on ITV1's Sure Fans United programme on 17th May. French TV Channel TF1 have sent a crew to interview the band for French TV and the band will be appearing on world cup show "Bite Yer Legs".
The music video is showing on various music channels including VH1, Chart Show, B4 and Fizz. (with more to confirm)
