PUNTERS PILE IN FOR ITALY
Italy are now the unanimous favourites to beat France in Sunday's World Cup final in Berlin.
Some bookies found the pair hard to split after the French set up a repeat of the Euro 2000 final by edging past Portugal in Wednesday's semi-final.
But punters have waded in on the Italians who are now as short as 4/6 to lift the trophy and no better than 4/5.
France, Bettingzone's pre-tournament tips at 14/1, are a top 6/5 with
Total Bet and
UK Betting to repeat their 1998 triumph and the online duo are also best-priced about Raymond Domenech's men winning in 90 minutes (23/10).
Italy are 7/4 with
Paddy Power to get the job done in regulation time while the 90 minutes draw can be backed at 15/8 with
Victor Chandler and
Stan James
.
Recent history favours France.
The Azzurri lost to France on penalties at the quarter-final stage in World Cup 1998 and suffered an extra-time defeat two years later in the European Championship final.
# Germany are general 8/11 shots to beat Portugal in Saturday's third place play-off. The Portuguese are a top 22/5 at
Bet Direct while
Bet365 offer 13/5 about the draw.
# Miroslav Klose is as short as 1/50 at
Bet365 to win the Golden Boot. The Germany striker has five goals, two clear of his nearest rivals.
They offer Thierry Henry at 8/1 and teammate Lukas Podolski at 33s. Both have three goals.
Italy's Luca Toni, who would need a hat-trick to tie Klose, can be backed at 100/1 with
Sporting Odds.
