CHEAT OF THE WEEK 17-11-06
It's that time of the week again where our panel gets together to decide who was the biggest cheat of the previous week.
But first, Everton supporter Simon Jones objected to Dave Easson's comments about Everton fans last week. Simon should have checked out our panel profiles first. If he had, he would have realised that Dave is indeed from the same city as he is...
"Evertonian here. Don't agree with coin throwing but don't appreciate the Scouse bashing either. The police would have no probs finding the culprit if a section of the Smog Monsters had throw the coin. How many do you take away? 300 maybe? I've always hated Boro since I saw your home attendence for your first ever european match. Pathetic support(ers)." Simon Jones
This week's nominations were:
Robin Van Persie - A Maradona-esque Hand of God moment. Or was it the hand of a cheating sod instead?
El Hadj Diouff - Seemed like he wanted to get in a wrestling ring with Sheffield United's Leigertwood.
James Cotterill (Barrow) - "The club would like to emphasise that they deem violent conduct by any Barrow player totally unacceptable." Still haven't done anything about it though, have they!
And so to the panel...
Graham Frankland
It has to be Robin Van Persie for his sly attempt at conning the referee with his deliberate handball in his attempt to score against Liverpool. What disappointed me was the fact that the referee blew the whistle before the Dutchman had put the ball in the net. It would have been great to have seen him wheeling away in celebration at the "goal" leaving no one in any doubt of how much of a cheating bastard he really was. The referee let him off the hook by blowing quickly and "Robin" us of the sight of Van Persie really embarassing himself in his celebration. Hang your head in shame, you have been caught red handed!
Dave Easson:
Yes yes yes...James Cotterill it is.
Bearing in mind the jaw is the hardest bone to break in the human body, that's some left hook. He broke it twice!
It's all about the magic of the FA Cup isn't it? Jumpers for goalposts, old women knitting in the front row, twatting each other while the ref's looking the other way. Marvellous, isn't it?
But who kicked all the balls onto the pitch at Macclesfield? Surely Incey can find some other way to get the game abandoned - or perhaps not lose...
Simon Dixon
I'd love to nominate Diouf - nasty, dirty, cheating piece of scum that he is but my vote goes to James Cotterill. I mean words fail me... apparently Cotterill is now a 'broken man'. Well my hearts bleeds for him. What an idiot - I mean how in a million years can he think it's OK to lay out an 18 year old lad with a sucker-punch like that? Double fracture of the jaw.... Jesus.
Jeff Winter:
El Hadj Diouff should just have the word CHEAT as his name on the back of his shirt. This man is a catalogue of everything that is bad about the game. Spitting, diving, Hitting his wife (allegedly) - the list grows. I was good mates with Big Sam until I did an article about El Hadj Cheat, now I am not welcome at the Reebok. Well my loss, eh.
Now smacking someone in the mouth is at least more honest than diving and more acceptable than the despicable act of spitting. But not on a football pitch. The Barrow boot boy should be arrested, imprisoned and the spineless wanker banned from football sine die. I hold my breath!!!
Steve Goldby:
Thuggery and violence has no place at all in football and I'm nominating Cotterill for his despicable behaviour last Saturday. Surely he should do time for that? But as usual, I expect the situation to quietly die down and be forgotten about which is just as much a sham as the act itself.
And so this week's winner is James Cotterill of Barrow, our first ever non-league winner. Which just goes to show that if you want to cheat, we'll expose you, wherever you are playing.
Until next week.
