YOUR CHANCE TO PLAY AT THE RIVERSIDE
By Middlesbrough FC
How would you like to take part in a football match on the Riverside Stadium pitch just 24 hours after Boro’s final match of the 2007-08 season?
That’s the unique chance Boro fans are being given if they make the highest bids to take part in a 90-minute 11-a-side game on Monday May 12 – and raise funds for charity into the bargain.
Father Paul Farrer is organising the game with a team of fellow fundraisers and all profits will be donated to Baghdad Children’s Cancer Hospital in Iraq.
The fans’ match is just one of a series of events being organised by Father Paul and friends as he looks to raise £40,000 for charity during 2008 to mark his 40th birthday in October.
Other 40@40 events include a gala dinner at the Riverside Stadium on June 13, a casino night at Judges in Yarm, a Sixties Night at the Marton Hotel & Country Club, a gig at The Knights Club in Middlesbrough and a sponsored bungee jump from the Transporter Bridge.
Good causes set to benefit include Teesside Hospice, Zoe’s Place, the Helen Timney Foundation for local underprivileged youngsters and a fund to send poorly children on pilgrimage to Lourdes.
Fr Paul, priest for the Holy Name of Mary and St Thomas More parishes, said: “I am very lucky to have some great friends who have always helped me raise money for charities over the years that I have lived in Middlesbrough.
“Having had great success with various projects last year I thought it would be good to try to raise £40,000 as I will be 40 this year.
“As always, it was my close friends who made me think that it may be possible – so many of them have agreed to take on some challenge as we go through the year together.
“We have a great programme of events but a chance to play on the pitch at the Riverside is my personal favourite. I will certainly be bidding!”
Wannabe Boro stars can bid now to play in set positions in the fans’ match by emailing bids of at least £150 by clicking here. Bidders should put the position in which they would like to play in the title of their email. They will be emailed back to let them know if they are the highest bidder.
The organisers would also like to hear from those who would prefer to play only 30 or 45 minutes. Again, bids should be made by email.
Top bids can also be checked on Boro's official websiteat mfc.co.uk. The final date for bids is Friday April 23 2008.
