EXTRA SECURITY MEASURES FOR QUARTER-FINAL
By Middlesbrough FC
Extra security measures will be in place at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday when Boro host Cardiff City in the FA Cup quarter-final sponsored by E.ON.
Middlesbrough supporters will not be allowed into the South Stand or surrounding areas to avoid potential clashes with thousands of travelling Cardiff supporters.
And, contrary to usual practice, no bars will be open to Middlesbrough fans after the match.
Strict conditions are also being applied to Cardiff fans, who have been warned they should not travel without a valid match ticket.
All home tickets are sold out and Boro expect to have close to a full house for the tie, which kicks off at 2pm.
Boro Safety Officer Sue Watson said: “Tight security will be in place to ensure Sunday’s big match goes safely and smoothly. We apologise to Boro fans for any inconvenience, but safety is paramount.”
Supporters are advised to arrive at the Riverside early to avoid road delays and queues at the turnstiles.
With large traffic volumes expected on the A66, the club is appealing to fans to leave plenty of time for their journey.
Supporters are reminded that the main Shepherdson Way approach road to the Riverside Stadium will close at 1.15pm on Sunday to all but holders of matchday car park passes.
The closure is now standard procedure when there is a Middlesbrough home match and is designed to ease congestion around the stadium when entry is at its peak. Drivers with passes for Car Park A are requested to arrive no later than 1.30pm.
Matchday car park passes should be displayed on vehicle windscreens when approaching Shepherdson Way to ensure easy access.
Boro supporters are advised to retain their ticket stubs as they may be required at a later date.
