FIVE STAR SERVICE AT THE RIVERSIDE
By Middlesbrough FC

Middlesbrough Council has awarded the catering staff at the Riverside Stadium with the prestigious Five Star rating for food hygiene.
The Five Star award is the highest accolade available in food hygiene and completes a double for Middlesbrough Football Club, which had already achieved the award for the catering facilities at Boro’s Rockliffe Park training ground.
The catering team at the Riverside cover a vast range of responsibilities that go far beyond a mere match day service.
Sunday Lunches at the stadium are very popular and can attract up to 600 customers on a busy day, while the staff work round the clock providing meals and refreshments for conferences and events held at the ground.
When cookbook queen and then Norwich chairwoman Delia Smith visited the Riverside a couple of seasons ago she described the food served up in the stadium suites as “the best in the Premier League”.
The council announcement pleased Boro’s Head Chef Howard Archer, who has seen the Riverside become the biggest establishment in the area to be awarded the Five Star food hygiene rating.
A jubilant Archer remarked: “To have the Five Star Award at the stadium as well as the training ground is a big thing.
“It is a great credit to all of the staff and can give confidence to our customers and fans, not only in terms of our service and the quality of our food but with our behind-the-scenes hygiene too.
“It’s all down to teamwork. Everyone in the kitchen deserves the award and I am really proud of all of them. I couldn’t ask for a better team.
“Middlesbrough Council compiles a huge list of 44 pages profiling all the restaurants and catering services in the area. Of those 44 pages, only three-and-a-half of them are devoted to those with the Five Star Award.”
The award covers all elements of catering at the Riverside, including the 21 concourse kiosks that sell an average of 3,000 burgers, 1,500 pies and 300 hot dogs each matchday.
Fans can enjoy a taste of Middlesbrough Football Club’s award-winning food by booking for Sunday lunch at the Riverside. Prices are £14 adults and £7 under-16s, while season card holders qualify for 20% off on production of their card.
