Schoolboys Robbie Hanratty and Ben Gee are enjoying an exciting trip to Italy after winning a prize draw linked to next season’s home shirt vote.

Robbie (15), from Eston, and Ben (14), from Billingham, jetted off for their all-expenses-paid trip yesterday (Sunday) after their names were selected at random from 10,500 fans who took part in the online “Top Idol” poll.

Having flown from Manchester, they will enjoy a two-night stay in Parma and Milan, courtesy of Middlesbrough FC and club kit supplier Errea.

In Parma, they will visit the Errea factory to see the 2008-09 shirts being finished for transportation to Teesside. They will also call at the training ground of Serie A side Parma, another of Errea’s key clients, before returning home on Tuesday.

Robbie has been accompanied by his grandfather, Peter Lyon, a fellow season card holder in the North Stand. Ben has travelled with his dad, Keith, who sits with him in the North West corner.

“Robbie is thrilled to bits about the trip,” said Mr Lyon. “He’s Boro-mad and is really excited about seeing next season’s Boro shirts being made.”

Ben, who is just back from a family holiday in Malta, is the envy of his friends at Northfields School in Billingham.

Boro’s 2008-09 design – as chosen by the fans – will be unveiled officially before the end of the season. By popular vote, it will include the white chestband feature that was last seen in 2006-07.
