After the show on Saturday night I was on the road listening to some of the national phone-ins.

There was hell on as Scots complained about the biased refereeing that had cost them a place in Euro 2008.

When I actually watched the highlights it was somewhat different.

Italy should have had a second goal but it was ruled out for offside whilst Barry Ferguson's goal for Scotland actually WAS offside. Also the free kick that never was could still have been defended by the Scots.

I can't defend what was abysmal decision making in a vital game but as usual some fans saw things only one way. I, unlike many Anglos, wanted Scotland to win but the result on the day was about right.

Roll on half an hour and I arrived at a gig to see the last few minutes of Israel v Russia on the big screen. As Israel scored their unlikely winner, the room erupted. Then a voice bellowed "I suppose that means we will be stuck with McClaren for another year".

Sunday afternoon and I was at Hartlepool. Here, there was another hand ball not given by a referee who otherwise had a very good game. But one mistake in ninety minutes as a ref and you are labelled useless.

The main negative of the afternoon was to listen to the Pools fan who sits near the press box give his usual ninety minutes of verbal diahorea as he directs tactics and tells the players, manager, referee, linesmen and everyone where they are going wrong.

Is it only me or do you always get a prat like that sat near you? What is it with football that everybody knows better than the manager, when the truth is that most don't know the first thing about the game?

The last two weeks without Boro have given an extra amount of time for the fans to have their say.

It is interesting to read the views of some on the message boards.

It seems that many are dismissing the Twe12th Man as a bunch of "ra-ra's" who want to wave scarves and rattles.

This isn't the Ayresome Angels and it's not the Boro Boot Boys either. They are just a group of fans who actually go and who want a better atmosphere at the ground. I for one think that they should be applauded and not mocked.

It's the same with the emails I get. Some are saying that it is wrong to knock the fans who boo and jeer.

Well maybe it's just me but I come from an era when if you had a go at your own team you probably would have got a smack in the mouth off someone standing close by.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion and that not a single Boro fan can be happy with what has gone on this season but the thing that annoys me is that the booing does more harm than good. Surely anyone can see this.

Before long someone is going to go down the smack in the mouth route as a Downing/Boro supporter gets sick of the abuse being dished out.

I know that the air of dispondency is not going to be changed overnight and that a win or defeat against Villa will not change the minds of some. But if you are going at the weekend let's support the side - that's why we go!

Boro fans might like to give me a call this Saturday evening from 5.30 till 7pm on the Phone-in show that has not gone away. 01642 616666.

Did you know that it is possible to win money on Sunday afternoon's Premiership clash between Portsmouth v Fulham, whatever the result?

The game kicks off at 3.00pm and we can guarantee you a profit of at least £41.20, whatever the result of the match. We guarantee this bet

It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that we have been publishing arbitrage bets for four seasons now and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.

Only twice has our refund guarantee been triggered and that was when we did all the figures wrong and sent refunds out to those who had followed our advice and made a small loss.

Our refund guarantee works like this. If this bet doesn't work like we say it will and you end up out of pocket, we will refund your losses. Simple as that.

That means that you simply cannot lose on this, whatever happens and even if we messed up the numbers.

The only stipulation here is that you must click on the links on this page to be eligible for the refund guarantee, not that you'll be needing to claim anyway. Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
