Bloody typical! MOTD's Goal of the Month contender for December is Boro's Sunli. Well, you wouldn't expect them to know how to spell a Boro player's name correctly would you?
How did we not win on Saturday? Well wonder goal apart, it was once again down to not having the cutting edge up front. This is a problem that has to be sorted out this month.
The buzz on Saturday though was that Downing is off. So a few who chose to boo him recently will be pleased. I would think that the majority though, like myself, will see it as a retrograde step if he is allowed to go.
Those as old as me will have been brought up on the inevitability of the sales of Souness, Hodgson, Proctor, Johnson, Ripley, Pallister, Mowbray etc etc etc. After Downing, how long will it be before Wheater is poached by a "Big Club"?
I know some might say we have to wheel and deal and that we desperately need to get goal scorers in. Well okay but we have an abundance of centre halves and a few others who could reduce the wage bill and get some funds in. Selling our best and most productive player is not the answer. NO WAY.
Recently Yakubu suggested that Boro lack ambition. This is a statement that some Boro fans have echoed this season. I may also switch to that point of view should we allow Stewie to go.
I agree that you should not hang on to a dissatisfied player but this man is Boro through and through. If we give him the security and the wedge, and if we sign quality players, he will stay. I don't think he would settle in London anyway. It's too far from the Purple Onion, for starters.
He is one of us and I am sure that if we were successful, and a lot of that would be due to him anyway, he will get International recognition.
He can win things with us and if he can't then why do we bother? Let's get relegated and visit a few new grounds. Let's join the Coventry, Southampton, Wolves, Palace, Forest, Leeds band of former Premiership clubs and have a promotion battle each year!
