WARNOCK WEEKLY - RESTORING BORO'S PRIDE 22-8-08
Tom Warnock

It can't be argued that Saturday was a fantastic day all round. Football returned to the lives of thousands of hungry fans who’d been debating and speculating all summer long.

We were all unable to cheer on our homeland at Euro 2008 and many of us resorted to adopting a nation to attach our affections to.

Personally, I followed Turkey, mainly for the presence of our inherited son Tuncay. He was somewhat of an enigma during the Championships.

However, he embodies the spirit with which the game should be played, teaching a lesson to many of the young, aspiring, yet underachieving English talent.

On Saturday, Tuncay continued in this very same vein, along with every other Boro player who walked out on to the pitch versus Tottenham. It was a composed, determined and tactically astute display. Every player contributed as he should, fulfilling his role to the maximum.

In the centre, Shawky and O’Neil narrowed the angles for Jenas and Bentley, forcing the long balls, which Pogatetz and Huth nodded away time after time.

Alves linked up well with Downing and Aliadiere whilst Tuncay was in his element, moving between deep in midfield to wide right to in the Spurs box.

With no new signings in the first eleven, all eyes were on Brad Jones making his bow as Boro’s new number one. Or twenty-two as the case may be.

In truth, Jones wasn’t really tested and he can probably count himself lucky as Spurs spurned several efforts throughout the game. Bentley was shooting blanks and the Manc bound Berbatov wasn’t interested in the least.

The few efforts he did have to deal with, he seemed to do enough with, but for a player of twenty-six years of age, he doesn’t emanate confidence as a goalkeeper should.

He will be relying heavily on the calming influences of our assured defenders to guide him through each game until he feels at home.

Also, someone must try to drill out of him his habit of wanting to punch everything he can.

There’s nothing quite like a botched punch to create panic and uncertainty, whereas on the other end of the spectrum, an authoritative catch high above defenders heads can stamp out an entire team’s attacking momentum. Jones has to change this side of his game immediately otherwise he will cost us points.

Despite all the positives from Saturday’s game, it has emerged in the form of press speculation that Liverpool are the latest team to want hometown lad Stewart Downing.

Figures quoted are around the £12million mark, which in all honesty is a joke. In terms of what Stewy is worth to Middlesbrough Football Club, we would be looking at triple that figure. Make no mistake about it, Downing is integral to our potential success and without him, we would now be languishing in the Coca Cola Championship.

He played every single game last season and in my opinion, should have been handed the captaincy.

I am not worried in the slightest about any interest from Liverpool. The fat waiter (Benitez) can drool all he wants over our Stewey like a hot plate of paella because for this season he’s here to stay.

The Liverpool game will be an intriguing one. We have options to change the team, the style and the tactics. We have flexibility on the pitch and on the bench.

It also seems an ideal time to introduce Emnes to the Premiership as the youngster’s pace and youthful lack of fear will be an unknown quanitity for Liverpool.

It will also be good to see how the lumbering Hyypia and Co look to deal with our pacey forward line, rearguarded by a solid and menacing defence.

There seems to be a great feeling of optimism and purpose about this season’s campaign. The club, fans and players are well up for it and the challenge is there for everyone to rise to the occasion and bring back the good times to Teesside.

This method of betting was used very successfully during the 2006 World Cup and you can read all about how it was done right here.

We guarantee this bet

It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that this is the fifth season that we have been publishing arbitrage bets and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.

Only twice has our refund guarantee been triggered and that was when we did all the figures wrong and sent refunds out to those who had followed our advice and made a small loss.

Our refund guarantee works like this. If this bet doesn't work like we say it will and you end up out of pocket, we will refund your losses. Simple as that.

That means that you simply cannot lose on this, whatever happens and even if we messed up the numbers.

The only stipulation here is that you must click on the links on this page to be eligible for the refund guarantee, not that you'll be needing to claim anyway. Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
