Boro travel to the North-West this weekend brimming with confidence
after a fantastic opening day win against Spurs.
Liverpool are hoping to put in a title challenge this season
and so this game will provide a stern test for a young Middlesbrough
side. Will the visitors be able to play as fluently as they
did last Saturday on such a big stage?

The battle of the goalkeepers is between the best penalty stopper
in the Premiership and what looks like Boro’s new number one.
After a nervous start last weekend against Tottenham, Brad Jones
had a positive afternoon and made a couple of vital saves. Hopefully
he will grow in confidence as each game goes by and eventually
become as good a shot stopper as Reina.

Hyypia v Emanuel Pogatetz
With one of the most experienced Premiership centre backs leading
the line for Liverpool this weekend, the Boro strike force will
have to be on top form in order to beat the Liverpool defence.
It won’t just be Boro’s strikers who will have to be on top
form on Saturday though. After another solid display against
Tottenham, Pogatetz will have to be at his very best once again
to stop Torres from repeating what he did to us last season.
Jermaine Pennant v Stewart Downing
If I know Benitez’s rotation system then we’ll be seeing Pennant
start on the wing for Liverpool, with Yossi dropping to the
bench. I’m sure Jermaine won’t cause many problems though as
Stewie should be able to outpace him due to that extra weight
around his opponent’s ankle…
Against Spurs, Stewie once again showed how much class he brings
to the team. He set up the first goal and how he plays will
have a major bearing as to whether the Boro can get something
out of the game at Anfield.
Robbie Keane v
Tuncay Sanli
If Robbie Keane’s seventy-seven minute debut against Sunderland
is anything to go by then not only will Jones have an easy afternoon
but Tuncay will look world class!
Keane will be hoping to bag his first goal for The Reds as soon
as possible, otherwise the fans may start to get on his back
and he may even be dropped to the bench.
All in all, this will be a tough test for Boro in which Gareth
will want to prove just how good his young team is.
Prediction: If we play anything like we did
last season at Anfield, I’m sure that this time round we will
put a spanner in Liverpool’s title hopes and grab a point in
a 1-1 draw in front of the Kop.
