It's nice to start an article with us in the top half of the table.
As we expected Citeh were good at passing the ball, showed good movement but gave us the chance to play. They are not the powerhouses of Liverpool and Chelsea nor are they the thoroughbreds represented by Manchester United.
The formation was much as we expected so as an advocate of a bit of stability - no complaints. Digard and O’Neil did better than previously in midfield so that is a plus point. We still look a bit open in the centre but there is hope we can tighten up a touch. I think we will shelve my thoughts of Shawky paired with Digard for now but Arca coming on as a replacement for Digard was a bit scary.

There are still some issues to address but it was pleasing to see an improvement in passing and hence giving our attack more opportunities.

We need no lessons about not scoring when you have the chance so scant sympathy for Mark Hughes (miserable sod) and his team.

As the papers always tell the truth that is the end of that debate. O’Neill didn’t look unhappy about scoring so that is another monkey off a back.

Moving on to West Ham, they are a club in strife but we do not want to show any charity.
The team picks itself and hopefully we won't have picked up any injuries. It is important to build some momentum and allow the players to form understandings.
Listening to pundits talking about Spurs a couple of weeks ago was illuminating.
The view was that the players needed to look at themselves and see if they and their partners were doing their bit.
Centre backs should be making sure they did their jobs and did it for each other. They should also be making sure they work with the keeper. Same for the right back and right side midfield player and throughout the team for other pairs.
Work in pairs to make sure you were doing the best you could. Then as people covered each other it would spread through the team as the pairs worked as larger units to become an effective team.
The logical extension is that any players coming into the team would know the role they were to adopt and play to a pattern. The wonderful football that Manchester United and Arsenal can play isn’t an accident, it is a result of hard graft and teamwork.
The final thought is what a gem we have in Tuncay - no wonder he is a hero in Turkey. He plays with a smile on his face and with such a wholehearted attitude.
