The former Middlesbrough FC hero returns from the afterlife in the exciting comedy drama OLD BIG 'EAD in THE SPIRIT OF THE MAN, set to pack the Sunderland Empire with a three-night run.
More than just a legendary football manager, Middlesbrough born Brian Clough was a hero and worldwide icon and the show is sure to be a hit with Middlesbrough football fans as they reminisce about their hometown star, who scored a staggering 204 goals in 222 appearances before moving to Sunderland AFC in 1961 and then becoming the youngest manager in the league at 30, as boss of Hartlepool United.
Following a critically acclaimed world premiere run at Nottingham Playhouse in June 2005, OLD BIG 'EAD in THE SPIRIT OF THE MAN is making the ultimate comeback with an extensive UK tour by Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company, stopping at Sunderland Empire from Thursday 20 - Saturday 22 April.
OLD BIG 'EAD in THE SPIRIT OF THE MAN is an off-the-wall comedy that follows Brian Clough beyond the final whistle and into extra time. As the East Midlands' Inspirational Spirits Division's newest recruit, Clough joins Lord Byron, D.H. Lawrence and General Booth on the other side, before returning to Earth to help a floundering writer create a new drama about another Nottingham legend - Robin Hood.
Written by Stephen Lowe and directed by Alan Dossor, OLD BIG 'EAD pays homage to a working-class hero who was the best manager England never had and keeps Cloughie's legendary spirit alive as he makes the ultimate comeback - on stage! The tour sees Colin Tarrant (from TV's THE BILL) playing the title role.
