ICELAND 2 CLEVELAND CARS 1 - MATCH REPORT
Just like Middlesbrough, Iceland also played League champions this weekend. They took on Cleveland Cars, last season's double winners and favourites to retain the title this year, on home turf. Yet unlike the Boro - Iceland got a result.
Iceland did not get off to the best of starts as players missing due to work commitments forced them to start the game with only ten men.
Once the game started Iceland knew they would have to work hard and they certainly did.
Fifteen minutes into the match and Iceland were up to full strength. Ten minutes later they were 1-0 up when man of the match Tom Connolly forced the ball home after Iceland had had three shots blocked by the tenacious Cars' backline.
The score remained 1-0 to Iceland until the break.
Iceland knew the opposition would throw the kitchen sink at them in the second half but with Connolly and midfield partner Karl Brunskill breaking up most of Cars' attacks, and with the back four resolute, Iceland never really looked in trouble.
With twenty minutes to go Cars got a corner and for the first time in the match Iceland's marking was poor. It proved costly as Cars equalised.
Cars then upped the anti and started playing five up front but the Iceland defence stood firm.
With Cars pushing to nick the winner Iceland looked dangerous on the break and could have had a couple of goals before finally going back in front with ten minutes to go.
It was a hectic last ten but Iceland held on for their best win of the season.
