STUART TODD, TURKMENISTAN

I still follow the fortunes of the Boro despite having spent many years working overseas.

I am currently working on an Ammonia Plant construction project as a rotating equipment advisor. This is with a German company in Tejen which is in Turkmenistan.... no clues sorry.... it's somewhere on the map...

Ashgabat

Tejen is a very isolated community. Close to site with many very poor people... the site itself is where I 'live' in a typical construction camp.

Camp Stuart

The temperatures at the moment are down to about minus five degrees, ice crystals fall continuously...

In the summer, plus fourty five is normal and at times, plus fifty in the sun.

My laptop and internet access keep me in touch with the outside world through the online Gazette and ComeOnBoro.com.

Me in the City Pub...

Ashgabat the capital is a horrendous three hour drive away but is a very cosmopolitan city, so recently I got into the habit of making my escape when my work allows.

One of my favorite places is called the City Pub where the the manager, known locally as Shaun is a true football nut. He supports all English teams and can name the full Boro team.

Brilliant music an a Saturday evening...

During a recent leave, I was talking to my grandson about the scarves hanging on the wall in the City Pub and he presented me with one of his old Boro ones. See the picture above. Sorry Newcastle dominates.

... and friendly staff

Unfortunately as you see at first glance it appears to be a Cardiff Scarf, the name Middlesbrough not being well highlighted but I didn't realise until I saw the photo.

Grandson Matthew, still at New Marske and attending Bydales School

So there I am, Stuart Todd ex New Marske (now mainly Spain) and ex ICI Billingham. That was many years ago.

The scarf is from Matthew Grainger, a true Boro supporter and a keen soccer player. His Uncle, Paul Grainger incidentally is a match day steward.
