I am 76 and have been a Boro fan since Mannion & Hardwick were playing and I can still name most of that team. I was there when we got promoted from the Third Division (give us a goal John O'Rourke) - Anyone remember him?

Personaly I don't think Southgate will make it as a manager, but I hope that I am wrong.

Editor's Response:

Hi Baz

The consensus in the office is the same. Gareth Southgate doesn't seem to command the authority that is required in management. Last season, Boro went down because of poor motivation and tactics, rather than anything else, and this is the manager's responsibility.

As you imply though, I hope he does make it as a manager as Boro's success looks like it is dependent on it.

A lot of Boro fans have very fond memories of Mannion, Hardwick and O'Rourke. Sadly, they were before my time but they were true Boro heroes.

A quick note to complement you on your great website. It is always up to date with the latest news and has good stories from across football. I seem to be always reading it. Hope you, the Boro, stay up.

Deputy Editor's Response:

Hi Stefan, it is very nice to hear positive feedback, particularly from a fan of another team. Despite Boro obviously being our main focus, we try to offer our readers as much football news as we can across the leagues and it is great to hear that we are doing a good job. Thanks for the support, we need all the hope we can muster!

What you said about your safety officer is the same with us, very PC and not allowed to stand in certain areas. Trouble is, confrontation also breeds resentment between supporters and stewards so your problem seems to be a problem creeping into our beloved game by the PC brigade.

Deputy Editor's Response:

I understand that the stewards have to work within safety guidelines and that obviously the priority of the safety officer of any football club will always be to ensure safety, but where safety is not compromised, such as with the 'constant noise' which the letter referred to, there needs to be some more common sense used and maybe a more universal approach. Clubs need to work together.

Please don't let Boro get relegated. I'll really miss your amusing website if it's full of Championship stuff next season.

The Editor's Response:

I am glad that you enjoy the site but don't fear, there will still be a Premiership focus next season, even if we do go down. Of course, City didn't help us at the weekend against Pompey but hopefully we can crawl our way out of our current mess.

I hope things improve for City as your form has been rather patchy. I have a few good friends who are City fans so I always look out for their results.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Hi

I enjoy reading the articles on your site as they are usually pretty informed judgements but I'm afraid the one about who Man City brought in makes the writer look very uniformed, even amateurish.

Had you heard of De Jong before the transfer? Do you know the least bit about him? No... I thought not, otherwise you wouldn't have said City have got nothing?

The bit about Bellamy seems very "sour grapes" as well.

Nice one.

I love ComeOnBoro.com as one of the best sites for news and comment anywhere on the net.

I hope you are not going to go down the road of the tabloids with their cheap shots at Man City, which your deputy editor has done today.

I really hope you sort her out because it's just bad writing. Come on, ComeOnBoro, you know better than this.

Last August, Mark Hughes said he was only interested in strengthening certain areas of weakness, following a poor campaign last season. This he has done, without over-paying for anyone, unless you don't think Robinho was worth it. That's a matter of opinion.

I dont think teams were thrilled to see the back of Bellamy, or Given, or De Jong, or Wayne Bridge (John Terry was very public about that).

Kaka will come in the summer, just watch.

Santa Cruz was eventually overpriced by fat greedy Sam. He would have taken it, but WE pulled out.

Finally, that's recoup £47m, not recup, by the way. You're thinking of the verb recuperate, which means get better, which I hope Boro do very soon, genuinely, and good luck for the rest of the season.

Much as I accept your right to an opinion, I did laugh at your article about how poor we have been in the transfer market.

I would just like to point out that if Bellamy is such a disaster, how come he has scored more goals in three games for us alone than your whole team has scored in the last ten League games?

And Shay Given, well he's so rubbish he only virtually (single handedly!!) saved the game for us on Saturday. He prevented you from winning and helped us bag the three points!!

Bridge is rubbish - I mean how many goals did you score after getting one over him on Saturday? I'll say it loud just for you, NONE that's NONE, NIL, NADA, ZILCH so he actually kept you at bay then, no?

De Jong, well I can't really argue with you about him other than to say at least he's a midfielder who wants to be at our club, unlike a certain Mr Downing I might suggest.

Please feel free to respond as I do love free debate!
