Falkirk boss John Hughes hailed his side's defending after they frustrated Hearts at Tynecastle to earn a 0-0 draw and boost their hopes of making the top six of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

The Bairns maintained their three-point possession of sixth place by restricting Hearts to very few chances in a goalless encounter.

Hughes has been working on a new counter-attacking game, which looks like sealing Falkirk's first top-six finish.

"It's a tough place to come and get something," he said.

"We were organised, had a good shape, disciplined, resolute.

"I picked a team I felt could stand up to it - they did that.

"We played some good stuff. We did some stupid stuff in the first 15 minutes that could have cost us.

"But we could have won the match."

Falkirk's new style was in evidence.

"We got them on the counter-attack three or four times - and with better decision-making in the last quarter, we could have stolen a goal," Hughes added.

"That is five clean sheets in the last six games. I think you can all see Darren Barr, after I gave him the captain's armband, is turning into a real stalwart for one so young.

"He was backed up by four or five others. I never saw my goalkeeper have a save to make - apart from one when he came out his box and that hit him on the chest."

Hughes felt Falkirk might have taken an early lead after Scott Arfield played through Graham Barrett - but the offside flag was raised, before Lee Wallace brought down the Falkirk forward.

He said: "I felt a little bit let-down - I don't feel Barrett was offside when he got clipped."

Hearts caretaker boss Stephen Frail was disappointed with his team's decision-making in attacking positions.

"Too many times we picked the wrong option - and we never put Falkirk under pressure," he said.

"We just huffed and puffed.

"Calum (Elliot) has the chance in the first half. He could maybe have slid (Laryea) Kingston in but he decides to shoot - the wrong option."

But he called on Hearts fans to stop the criticism of youngster Calum Elliot, who had little success in a lone striker's role, as he rued the absence of Christian Nade with a pelvic injury.

Frail said: "If you had seen the Inverness game Nade linked well with Calum Elliot, but we can't get them on the same pitch long enough.

"I think there is an expectancy. I still believe the boy is a good player, but it is difficult for the lad.

"At the Inverness game there was a little less pressure away from home. Nade scored two goals and gets all the plaudits - but Calum worked very hard.

"The fans are entitled to speak their mind. But it doesn't help him - it makes it worse."

We guarantee this bet

It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that we have been publishing arbitrage bets for four seasons now and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.

Only twice has our refund guarantee been triggered and that was when we did all the figures wrong and sent refunds out to those who had followed our advice and made a small loss.

Our refund guarantee works like this. If this bet doesn't work like we say it will and you end up out of pocket, we will refund your losses. Simple as that.

That means that you simply cannot lose on this, whatever happens and even if we messed up the numbers.

The only stipulation here is that you must click on the links on this page to be eligible for the refund guarantee, not that you'll be needing to claim anyway. Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
