Derby manager Paul Jewell admits he would happily trade places with any of the managers still battling for Premier League survival on Sunday.

The Rams' relegation may have been confirmed weeks ago but they could still have a say in who comes down to with them.

Reading travel to Pride Park knowing even a victory may not be enough to save them as three points for Fulham against Portsmouth would almost certainly condemn them to the Championship.

Birmingham, who face Blackburn, are in even deeper trouble as they trail the pair by a further point.

It promises to be a nerve-wracking weekend for all concerned with a place in the top flight estimated to be worth at least £35million.

But Jewell, who has masterminded survival successes on the final day at Bradford and Wigan, is in no doubt which position he would rather be in.

"I saw (Birmingham manager) Alex McLeish the other day and he looked drained, but to be fair, I wish I was him," he said. "I wish I was (Fulham boss) Roy Hodgson out of them all because at least it's in his own hands.

"Reading could beat us or Birmingham could beat Blackburn but they could still go down.

"The beauty of last season for me was that we knew if we won it didn't matter what was happening anywhere else.

"So I would swap all that for the way I feel now - flat and embarrassed about the situation.

"But also I can't wait to get this game out of the way to dust ourselves down and come back raring to go next season."

The County manager, who is still looking for a league win since his arrival in November, revealed he thrives on the pressure situations so often thrown up at the campaign's climax, even insisting the relief of survival can outweigh that of success.

"I enjoyed the week building up to pressure games that I have been involved in," he added.

"You have to have that positive energy about you that will transmit itself through to the players and take it away from the players.

"I always had positive weeks in training leading up to the final game.

"I guess when you look back at pictures of yourself at the final whistle the relief is almost better than winning the Cup, or the league or the double.

"The emotions are so high and the stakes are so high but it's what makes us tick I guess.

"I wish I had a chance of staying up on Sunday because I would rather that than the situation we are in now."

The Rams may have spent much of the season cut adrift at the bottom - they currently trail the nearest-placed Blues by 21 points - but Jewell expects them to bridge the gap between them and their fellow relegated rivals over the summer.

"With the players I'm looking to bring in and things I'm trying to change I think we will be competitive next season against whoever comes down, whether it be Fulham, Reading or Birmingham," he said.

"The only beauty if that's the right word is that we have been planning for the Championship for some time.

"I would guess certainly Birmingham and Reading would have thought that they would have had enough to get out of it.

"Fulham have given themselves a chink of light and they're on a roll."
