St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson insists his players will immediately bounce back from their midweek cup defeat when they travel to Motherwell in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
The Love Street boss described the final quarter of last Tuesday's 2-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup reverse against First Division side Dunfermline as being "as bad as I've seen us", but claims his squad have responded in the right way and will learn from the defeat.
He said: "We're looking for a reaction from them - we've had a talk since that game and reminded the players that they've done a lot of good stuff so far this season, and it's about getting back to doing what they're good at.
Story continues below...
"The boys were naturally disappointed, but the good thing is that this game has come along quickly, so we have an opportunity to rectify it; and we've done a lot of work like crossing, shooting, finishing drills and being positive during this week.
"We've had a frustrating start to the season because we've played pretty well in the league and not got the points we feel we've deserved, and we want to change that against Motherwell.
"I saw their cup tie against Hamilton and they played pretty well, especially in the second half when they were down to 10 men, so there will be two disappointed sets of players desperate to make amends for poor results."
MacPherson will be without Craig Dargo, who became his latest injury victim after picking up a training-ground knock on Wednesday.
However, the manager expects to have Andy Dorman back in the Buddies midfield, and wants to see his players take their chances in front of goal to record their second victory of the season.
MacPherson said: "When we have Andy in our midfield, we have a real threat in the middle of the park.
"He missed the cup game and although I don't think that was a major factor, it's always better to have that type of player in your team, and he'll be looking to get his first goal in the SPL this season.
"We lost poor goals against Dunfermline and games change on goals; we've created chances in the league games so you're just hoping that the guys can be clinical up front and look to take them, but it's not just the strikers as chances have dropped to midfielders too and defenders from set-pieces.
"We have to take them when they come along - it's the hardest thing in football to score goals but you'd be more concerned if you weren't creating chances.
"It's been a frustrating start to the season; we've drawn twice at home and we should have beaten Aberdeen when you looked at it and thought how well we were playing, but we ended up losing the game.
"That's the frustrating thing, but there's no anxiety there because it's only six games down the line and we're positive and have belief in the players because they've shown since the start of the season what they're capable of.
"We've given very good accounts of ourselves away to Celtic and Hearts and although the second half against Dunfermline was so poor, there was a lot of good stuff in our last home game against Falkirk - we passed the ball really well and now we have to get back to doing what we've already shown we're capable of.
"Motherwell have a good squad with experienced players, but we have that too and it's up to our players to perform to their capabilities.
"Our recent fixtures against them have always been close, reasonably competitive and there have been goals in the games, so I would expect the same again tomorrow and hopefully we'll have the edge."

We guarantee this bet
It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that this is the fifth season that we have been publishing arbitrage bets and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.
Only twice has our refund guarantee been triggered and that was when we did all the figures wrong and sent refunds out to those who had followed our advice and made a small loss.
Our refund guarantee works like this. If this bet doesn't work like we say it will and you end up out of pocket, we will refund your losses. Simple as that.
That means that you simply cannot lose on this, whatever happens and even if we messed up the numbers.
The only stipulation here is that you must click on the links on this page to be eligible for the refund guarantee, not that you'll be needing to claim anyway. Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
