"A lot of clubs have shown they can beat each other and while St Mirren are bottom of the league at present, they are still very capable of winning games.
"We know ourselves that any time we have gone to play them at Love Street, our matches have always been close encounters.
"People said it would be hard for us when we went to Easter Road at the weekend there but equally, it will be as difficult when we go to Paisley."
Smith has not forgotten his side's failure to clinch the the SPL title last term was largely down to their ineffectiveness on the road.
They won fewer than half their away league fixtures, justifying the manager's belief that they have no cause for complacency this term.

Defender Jack Ross, who is hoping to shake off his hamstring injury in time for Sunday's clash, insists this weekend would be the ideal moment to record a morale-boosting first home win.
