THE ComeOnBoro.com 888 PACIFIC POKER TOURNAMENT
The third ComeOnBoro/888 Pacific Poker Tournament was the most competitive yet with a field of players all determined to win this prestigious title.
The chances of the title staying in Middlesbrough, where it has resided since it's inception, was under threat from Lezale of Maastricht who took his place in the ComeOnBoro poker room with defending champion sg036 and former champion GETSMART. The field was completed by adcraig, monty95 and beanyuk, all hailng from Middlesbrough.
The early chip leader was beanyuk who looked as though he was about to take an insurmountable lead at one stage but GETSMART was having none of it and not only managed to confuse the field with some off the wall bets like $152 and $84 that were not even full pot size, but also called a $200 bluff by sg036, leaving him trailing behind in last position and taking over the chip leader's position from beanyuk.
But the dark horse of this tournament was adcraig who was trailing in fifth place after suffering from early connection problems. He made up for it in some style though when GETSMART tried to take him out with a flush draw that didn't come off. adcraig took a healthy sized pot when GETSMART folded on the turn and became the new chip leader.

Meanwhile, Lezale was having some pretty poor luck in the shape of no cards whatsoever and as his stack was slowly whittled down, so the title looked to be heading home again. At one stage, it appeared to be destined for monty95 as his early cagey play was cast aside and three out of four consecutive hands worth at least $240 each were taken without showing.
The leader board was changing rapidly now with four players all sitting on over $1200 and beanyuk and Lezale about to throw caution to the wind. The first to drop was Lezale who fell victim to GETSMART's razor-blade tactics when he went all in with a straight, only to see the former champ come back with a partially hidden flush. It was good night Vienna to Lezale and that confirmed that the title was going to stay in Middlesbrough.
Another surge by monty95 lifted him into a high position and some tight agressive play by adcraig ensured he kept the lead. beanyuk failed to keep his patience though and gambled everything on an A-J starting hand that was beaten by GETSMART's two pairs. And then there were four.
The half-time interval approached with four players all within $200 of each other but that was all to change on the last two hands before the interval. Three straight wins totalling $2700 had edged GETSMART some way in front of everyone and he went in heavy to the tune of $1000 on a high pair that was beaten on the river by sg036's higher pair. A $1500 win for sg036 on the very last hand of the first half saw GETSMART and sg036 on $2500 each and monty95 and adcraig on $500 each.
Play resumed with monty95 and adcraig having little choice but to go al-in on anything that was semi-decent as the blinds were now up to half of their stack. It worked for adcraig who straight away doubled his stack with these kamikaze tactics but not for monty95 who was smoked out by GETSMART who moved in with a straight draw and took the pot with just a pair of kings, eliminating monty95 in the process.

With the field now down to three and adcraig trailing badly, it was odds on for a heads-up between the two men whose names were on the champion's list but it all turned again as GETSMART turned aggressive, laying down $2300 all-in on an excellent starting hand. sg036 called it and took the biggest pot of the night with a measly pair of tens and that was GETSMART blasted out of the water and out of the tournament.
The final showdown between sg036 and adcraig was a reckless affair but with adcraig playing with $500 and sg036 sitting on $5500, it was the right thing to do to go all-in on any decent starting hand. sg036 was just as reckless, matching him on a 10-8 on what was to be the last hand and once again drawing the high pair on the river and retaining the title in the process.
So the title stays in Middlesbrough and stand by for an announcement on the date of the next ComeOnBoro/888 Pacific Poker Tournament. There'll be at least five players going all out to take the title from sg036 next time and as long as they don't go all-in on a ten high, it wouldn't be adviseable to bet against them claiming the crown next time round.
