THE ComeOnBoro.com POKER TOURNAMENT
The fourth ComeOnBoro Poker Tournament signalled the first tournament since this prestigious event turned into a weekly tournament. The tournament is now hosted by PokerPoka.
For the first ever time, the title was guaranteed to stay in Middlesbrough, where it has resided since it's inception. Five players were present on the final table including current and former champions SteveG36 (formerly sg036) and Harry_C (formerly GETSMART). The table was completed by Frankish, Montelimar0 and BeanyUK, all hailng from Middlesbrough.
The new tournament rules are unlimited buy-ins for the first hour but Harry_C did not need any as he started to take the field to pieces, building up a healthy chip lead in the process. SteveG36 doubled up the prize pot by himslef with some reckless play that led to five re-buys. Frankish and BeanyUK also required no re-buys and Montelimar0 needed just the one at the very end of the first hour.
Going into the interval, Harry_C was leading the field with over 8000, BeanyUK was just behind with 5500 followed by SteveG36 with 3500, Montelimar0 with just under 2000 and Frankish with just over 1000. Frankish was playing a reasonable game but suffering badly with connection problems. Wireless isn't ready for online poker yet.
The second half of the final produced some very interesting twists and turns with BeanyUK really coming into his own and slapping Harry_C round the face on around six separate occasions. Harry had raced into a massive lead and become the first player to reach a five figure chip sum, knocking out the unlucky Montelimar0 in the process.
But BeanyUK played a brave game that was simply too much for Harry who didn't recover from a 6000 chip wipeout after flopping two pairs. After Beany had stormed into the lead, Frankish was eliminated after going all-in with his last 1000 on his starting hand. You have to feel for the guy and he will hopefully be back next week with a better connection. He most certainly has a good chance of making an impact in this competition.
It only took four more hands before the field was down from three to two. SteveG36 had been sitting back doing nothing and leaving BeanyUK or Harry_C to battle it out in the hope that one would be eliminated and the tactic worked an absolute treat as BeanyUK threw down the gauntlet with 8000 chips when holding a high pair. Harry took the bait, raised all-in and that was that. BeanyUK had made the final pair for the first time and was in there with a strong chip lead, 13000 to 7000.
The final head to head was fast and frantic as SteveG36 set about whittling down Beany's lead and sensing that Beany was losing his patience, he managed in the space of three hands to become chip leader and then took a 6000 lead himself with a full house of 3-Q.
With Beany down to 5000 chips, he threw caution to the wind and went all-in with a starting hand of 4-6 D. SteveG36 called it, despite only having 3-5 H and the match was over as three more hearts dropped in, giving SteveG the title for the third consecutive time.
